Clinical Observation on Acute Pancreatitis



Abstract
140 cases of acute pancreatitis were analyzed clinically and the results were obtained as follows;
1. There was no significant difference in occurrence between both sexes.
2. The main symptoms were abdominal pain (98.6%), nausea and vomiting (52.9%) and radiating pain(17. 1%). The major physical findings were abdominal tenderness (85.7%), distention (28.6%) and rigidity (27-10/0).
3. In 58 cases (53.7%), serum amylase level was more than 500 Somogyi unit.
4. Radiological findings of the chest showed abnormal changes in 40 cases (28.6%) including 28 cases of elevation of diaphragm, 18 cases of pleural effusion, 4 cases of platelike atelectasis and 2 cases of pneumonia.
5. Radiological findings of the plain abdomen showed colon cut-off sign in (15.7%) and sentinel loop sign in (8.6%). Gastrocolic separation was observed in 2 cases.
